Welsh Terrier



Welsh Terrier is one of the oldest pure breed Terrier this dog breed was first shown in England in 1884 and Welsh Terrier was first imported to the United States in 1888. This breed is originally developed in Wales to hunt otter, Fox and Badger in their dens. This is very intelligent, friendly, energetic and outgoing make them a wonderful companion.

This probably an offshoot of the old British Black and Tan Terrier. Some of the Welsh Terrier consists of talents such as watchdogging, agility, hunting, tracking and performing tricks. Welsh Terrier was first registered by the AKC in 1888.



Welsh Terrier eyes are small and dark brown with almond shaped. They look like Airedale Terrier and its head is long, flat and rectangular. Its hair color changes from dark colors to light colors depending on its age. Welsh is bold and spirited, affectionate dogs which have outgoing nature and making them good family pets.

Its neck is moderate length and thickness, it is slightly arched and sloping gracefully into shoulders. Welsh Terrier are reserved a round strangers, and they make brave watchdogs. Their v-shaped ears fold forward and nose is black. Welsh Terrier feets looks like cats feet because they are small and rounded.

Welsh Terrier makes okay in apartments if they are sufficiently exercised. They are quick learners and very active indoors small yard is sufficient for this breed. This is always ready to play with a ball and to run and gambol off the leash. Welsh Terrier needs to have its coat is plucked three or more times in a year that depends on the condition of the coat.

Black and tan, black, grizzle and tan.

A dog's standard height vary maximum at 15 inches.

Dog's weight vary between 20 to 21 Pounds.

A healthy Welsh Terrier dog lives about 10 to 12 years.



Welsh Terrier are active and playful, they had great sense of humor and makes good child's companion. This breed is an excellent jumper and it will give everyone good laugh. Some are very combative with other animals and some are not quarrelsome at all. Welsh Terrier is a little calmer than the other long legged Terriers and they are very curious and playful. Welsh Terrier is a vigilant, active cheerful and uncomplicated dog. The beard of this breed should be cleaned regularly.

Welsh Terrier as a Pet

Welsh Terrier pets are affectionate and Spunky this is patience with children and it makes good choice for young family. These pets loves to play with children and it enjoys swimming, digging, playing and it will also bark. This is strong to fight with other pets as well as strange dogs. They are good at hunting as well as good family pets. Welsh Terrier will do well in obedience, agility and flyball and they are adaptable for both city and country environment.
