Welsh Corgi

Welsh Corgi is a specific breed of short legged dogs which are believed to have been introduced into South Wales, their place of origin, during the onset of 12th century by Flemish immigrants.

About Welsh Corgi

They are popular as a multi purpose breed that is quite similar in appearance to the Cardigan Welsh. Welsh Corgi is considered the smallest members of the Herding group. They are quite famous as the most preferred pet by Queen Elizabeth II.

Physical Appearance

Welsh Corgi is particularly a double coat breed. Its outer coat is quite straight and coarse in texture and has medium length. The coat underneath it is thick, shorter in length and weather resistant. The color of the coat of Welsh Corgi generally varies from sable, fawn, deep red to tan and black. Welsh Corgi may or may not have markings on their coat. They are believed to shed their entire coat twice in a single year, thus categorizing them as heavy shedders.

Welsh Corgi as a Pet

Welsh Corgi is an ideal choice for a pet. They are loving, obedient and extremely loyal to their masters. They are quite fearless, active and prosper under human care and affection. Most of the families who have old people or young children who need companionship prefer this breed as a pet. However, if they are restrained from any physical activity for extended periods of time, they might end up becoming restless and destructive. When bored, they resort to excessive barking in order to show their irritability. They generally do not require excessive grooming. Their bathing rituals have to be occasional. However, care must be taken to regularly trim their nails in order to prevent splaying of the feet.

Character Traits

Welsh Corgi can particularly be characterized as a long and low dog that is blessed with a robust build. They are a spirited and athletic bunch who can serve up as a versatile companion. They particularly are known for the intelligent and interested expression which they carry on their face. This is the reason why they are also known as “bog dog in a small dog’s suit”

Specific Traits of Welsh Corgi

They have an inherent desire to please which makes them quite easy to train. However, any routine task done repetitively can make them feel bored easily. So, if you are looking forward for a lively companion as a pet, Welsh Corgi is an ideal choice for you.
