Vizsla

The Vizsla is a famous hunter dog with a very good nose. It is the best sporting dog and at the same time is also a very affectionate household companion.

About Vizsla

Amongst the most attractive features of the breed is its size. The dog is said to have its origin in Hungary. This dog can be trained easily and is known to be a loyal companion as well. In spite of being gentle mannered, lively, affectionate and sensitive, this dog breed is also fearless and has well-developed protective character.

Physical Appearance

The Vizsla is medium in size, is glossy and muscular. It has slightly domed skull and a line midst the forehead. It has a well developed muscular body with long and round tipped ears. The Vizsla’s eye color finds a blend with the coat and nose is brown. Its beautiful short coat is rusty golden colored, dark mahogany red and pale yellow. The dog has terracotta-white teeth and developed jaw. The male Vizsla can be 22-25 inches and females can be 21-24 inches high.

Vizsla as a Pet

The Vizsla can prove to be a very nice pet. These dogs are very loyal, caring, highly energetic, gentle-mannered and highly affectionate. They can form close bonds very easily with their owners, including children. “Velcro” is said to be the synonym of these dogs due to there loyalty and affection.

Characteristics of Vizsla

Vizsla is a natural hunter and is easily trainable but these dogs have to be handled gently without harsh comments, which may damage the sensitive temperament of the breed. Vizsla dog is an excellent swimmer and would never miss an opportunity to be into the swimming pool. Lack of proper exercise, which is very necessary for these dogs to be happy and healthy too, would aggravate these dogs a lot. Though these dogs can be good being with cats tamed with them, their hunter instinct cannot be controlled, when they are around rabbits, guinea pigs or hamsters.

Specific Traits of Vizsla

It is intelligent, and enjoys being challenged and stimulated, both mentally and physically. The Vizsla is a pool of talents like pointing, tracking, watchdog, retrieving and obedience. Also this breed is known as “Chewers”. So, if someone is looking for calm dog and may not like to walk a couple of miles or jog at least one mile a day, Vizsla would not at all be a good choice for them.
