
The Shih Tzu was originated in Tibet. In 17th century they were occasionally given to the Emperors of China during the Manchu dynasty as a tribute of great honor.
Shih Tzu became little temple dogs and were kept in the palace and carefully guarded. The Peking Kennel Club was formed in 1934. An individual standard was set for the Shih Tzu in 1938 which was recognized as a separate breed from certain other Tibetan breeds.
The Kennel Club recognized this dog in 1938. In the late 1930s fanciers obtained the first Shih Tzu In the United States and this breed gained the popularity in 1960.
Shih Tzu imports coming from Europe and England. The other name of this dog is Chrysanthemum Dog. This was recognized by FCI, CKC, UKC, CKC, ANKC, NKC, NZKC, APRI, ACR,KCGB. This
dog breed is mainly popular as a good companion and as a glamorous show dog.
The Shih Tzu has a dense, long, and abundant double-coat. The profuse and luxurious outer-coat may be slightly wavy and often sweeps the ground. The under-coat is soft in texture and woolly.
Shih Tzu eyes are round, large, placed well apart, not prominent, and looking straight ahead.
Shih Tzu ears are large, set slightly below crown of skull, heavily coated with domed skull. Muzzles are short, square shape, with good cushioning, unwrinkled, set no lower than bottom eye rim and never down turned. The
dog Front muzzle should be flat; chin and lower lip not protruding and definitely never receding.
