Physical Appearance

Rhodesian Ridgeback belongs to the breed of hounds and their color usually varies from light wheaten to red wheaten. However, their nose can either be black or brown in color. One of the most distinct physical attribute of Rhodesian Ridgeback is that they have a marking along their back, which is created as a result of excessive hair growth in the opposite direction. Their coat is short, dense and should be glossy at all times. A Rhodesian Ridgeback having a silky coat is not a very positive sign. They grow up to a height of 25-27 inches and the weight of a fully grown male dog could be between 80-90 pounds.

Rhodesian Ridgeback is a hunting breed and they can very easily adapt themselves to home life. These dogs are quite straightforward in nature and can prove to be very good companion. However, it tends to get reserved and feels shy when confronted to strangers. Long periods of isolation should not be encouraged for them. Rhodesian Ridgeback reacts in the best manner to a consistent and equable approach of training. Shouting at them doesn’t help much, as it could only make them stubborn and dejected.
