Pet Life Insurance

A pet’s life is as valuable as any one of our lives. With so many pet life insurance schemes, you may be at a loss wondering what you must get for your pet. Here is where we guide you to get the best cover for the pet keeping in mind the economic viability of the same.

• First, before taking up any cover, make sure you consult a vet. As much as you may know you pet, the vet knows the pet’s health. So he or she will be in a position to gauge how the pet’s health may be over a period of time. Going by his judgment, you can decide the health insurance package. Yes, we are talking about choosing a health insurance package here because these days there are many pet life insurance companies that offer a good range of insurance covers depending on the pet and your pocket! So this prevents a person who has a perfectly healthy pet from opting for a cover for which you have to pay though your nose which claims to offer protection against over a thousand disorders. Why pay when you are pretty much sure that the pet would not even contract 75% of those disorders. In fact, your vet may be able to suggest a good insurance company for your pet.

• If you already have an insurance cover for your pet insurance, go through the policies once again to see if the cover includes life benefits too. More often than not, general health insurance covers do have end of life benefits. This will avoid unnecessary spending on another life insurance. If your present health insurance for the pet doesn’t have end of life benefits, it may make sense to opt for a life insurance from the same company. Many insurance companies offer you discounts if you choose multiple insurance covers from them or for two or more pets.

• Search for the insurance policies available on the net. While doing this, make sure that the insurance company has the license to operate in your state. Beware of unlicensed organizations. They may be as professional and as large as any authorized one. If you cannot gather the necessary information on the license, check with the state licensee. Many pet life insurance companies are not listed on the net. This does not mean that the company is not licensed.

• Never zero in on any one insurance policy. Have different quotes with you. You can get these quotes according to the type of insurance cover you are looking at either by meeting an insurance agent or through email or phone. Once you have these quotes you are in a position to compare the rates and come to a reasonable conclusion. Generally pet life insurance companies offer insurance against only certain pets which usually include only cats and dogs.

• Do not take a life insurance for a very young pet. Insurance companies themselves will generally advice you against it. Also, the cost of the insurance to a large extent depends on the age of the pet.
