Resembling the appearance of Standard Schnauzer, Miniature Schnauzer is a cousin of the Schnauzer breed of dogs and is an active and robust dog. It is famous for its toyishness, coarseness and is a terrier type of dog.

About Miniature Schnauzer

The Miniature Schnauzer, a German breed of dog, is reported to be formed because of the cross connection of the Standard Schnauzer, the Poodle and the Affenpinscher breed of dogs. This breed is named after the word muzzle which is also called as "Schnauze" in German. It belongs to the terrier or AKC terrier group of dogs. Famous for killing rats, the Miniature Schnauzer has changed or rather, developed its excellence from being a rat killer to being the most sought after companion. Miniature Schanuzer is well known for watching things, guarding your place, behaving in complete obedient manner and in hunting and tracking. Not only this, Schnauzer also displays its excellence in performing the dog tricks.

Physical Appearance

The Miniature Schnauzer has a long head and a small square body. Their bushy beard, thick eyebrows and a moustache needs to be trimmed regularly. They have straight front legs and docked tail and dark oval shaped eyes. Their cropped ears are to an extent erect. They look adorable because of their black or chocolate colored nose and their skin color which is either in shades of black, white, salt & pepper; silver coated etc.

Other physical attributes of these dogs are:
  • Height: They are about 12-14 inches tall
  • Weight: This dog breed weights around 10-15 pounds
  • Life expectancy: Schanuzer can have a life span of around 15 years.
Schnauzer is a bright eyed, playful and energetic dog. Their affection and obedience towards their master is simply delightful. Their playful nature and love towards children can make them enjoy company of their owners. Not only this, but they also get along well with other dogs. When well trained and allowed to socialize, Schanuzer displays complete obedience. When not taken properly care of, it can display some traits like anxiety, barky and can become temperamental.

Miniature Schnauzer as a Pet

Schnauzer as a pet can be lovely and adorable. They look extreme civilized, if you brush and comb their wiry coat, clip them, trim their moustache and eyebrows. Their whiskers are to be cleaned after their meals. They are also adorable since they shed little hair and do not give any kind of allergy to human beings. You should not over feed these dogs as they have a tendency to put on weight. You can take them on brisk walks.

Special Traits of Miniature Schnauzer

Schnauzer can become aggressive if they are not kept under proper leadership. They can become dangerous to the extent of challenging bigger dogs and thus, trouble the owners. Hence, you should allow these dogs to socialize well. Overall, Miniature Schnauzer can be apt for an apartment life and can stay active indoors. They are alert and obedient dogs. Their intelligence and willingness to obey your commands can really please you.
