The miniature poodle is a French dog and has been found in Western Europe for more than four centuries. The Miniature Poodle was used as a gun dog. In Germany and France this dog was used to retrieve water fowl when hunting. Today the poodle is a famous breed at dog shows and makes great companions as pets. They are also used as guard dogs and watch dogs and make excellent duck hunters. The name “poodle” is derived from the German word ‘pudelin’ which is used to describe the splash made when the oar of a boat is struck against the water. Being very sporty and entertaining, they are a pleasure to have around.
Physical Appearance of Poodle
Poodles are very stylish dogs and are one of those few species who actually groom themselves just the way cats do. They are slightly square shaped and are pretty muscular. There are three different varieties of poodles. There is a miniature, medium sized and a large variety of poodle. Each of these differs in height and weight, the other physical characteristics being the same. They are very furry animals. The eyes are usually jet black and are very expressive. The ears are long and hang loosely to the sides of the head adorably. The neck is arched and muscular. They have an unusually long neck.
The coat of the poodle is usually thick with fur. There are different grooming styles for the poodles. You can either cut their fur short and have a short cut or go for a continental clip. There are plenty of parlors for dogs that are springing up in many parts of the city. You can take your pet there to decide what style suits the dog best. Keep in mind the weather conditions prevailing in your city too. It is really uncomfortable for the dog to have a thick coat in a place with the temperature soars. These dogs need to have their ears checked regularly for infections and fleas. The tail is held upright and this gives the dog breed a very dignified look. These dogs grow up to a height of fifteen inches and weigh up to seventeen pounds. They have a life expectancy of fifteen years on an average.

Friendly and loyal, they get along well with children. They like outdoor games and would enjoy a game of ball. They are clever at picking up tricks and reacting to commands. This makes theme easy to train but often there are chances that the owner may spoil them because of those innocent adoring eyes and the cute mannerism of the dog. Miniature Poodle love children and get along well with other pets as well in the family. Regular exercise though not strenuous is needed for the dog to stay healthy. They are good natured and their ability to perform tricks makes them great at the circus ring too.

They are good pets and are usually active indoors. They can make good apartment dogs as they do not require too large an open space. They are easy to train and with a good amount of regular exercise, this breed stays happy and healthy.
