Miniature Pinscher, apt for a small apartment, is an intelligent and active dog that can bring liveliness to your place. They like to goop around in the yard and can be fun.

About the Miniature Pinscher

The Miniature Pinscher is a breed that was developed in Germany and belongs to the terrier breed of dogs. It is unrelated to the Doberman pinscher breed and was used for hunting purposes. This dog breed has high spirits and a charming personality which makes it a good companion. It looks like that it has the blood of Italian Greyhound running in it since it is high stepping.

Physical Appearance

Physically well balanced, the Miniature Pinschers are quite compact and smooth-coated dog. Muscular and square proportions of their body give them a strong look. The have slightly sloppy top line and small catlike feet with straight front legs. Their dark oval shaped eyes and scissor bite teeth add liveliness to their character. Both their head and docked tail are carried high and is accompanied by their red colored coat. Their nose is black or chocolate in color and they have high gait.

Other physical attributes of this breed are as follows:
  • Height: These breeds are 10-12 inches in height, although female dogs might be slightly longer.
  • Color: Usually black in color, Pinshcer also comes with some spots of red and rust markings.
  • Weight: They carry weight of around 8-10 pounds.

Behavior / Characteristics of Miniature Pinschers

Miniature Pinschers are fearless and self possessed dogs. Their high spirited soul makes them naturally well groomed. Their alertness and vigility makes them good watch dogs and adds fearlessness and courage to their character. Apart from this, they are quite loyal and good with children. Miniature Pinschers are fond of human interaction and are equally good with other dogs. If they are not treated properly, they can become demanding. Hence, they need to be groomed properly or else they can suffer from Small Dig Syndrome and can become headstrong, demanding and tyrant.

Miniature Pinscher as a Pet

Being loyal to their masters, this breed of dogs makes a good pet. You can softly comb their smooth and short hair. You will need to shampoo them only when it is absolutely essential. They shed normally and you can wipe their loose hair. They are quite healthy so you need not worry about their health. However, you will need to protect them from cold and take them out on a daily walk. They like to play in open fenced area.

Special Traits of Miniature Pinschers

When not properly groomed, Miniature Pinscher dog can become a human leader and can become barky. They can become aggressive and might go out of control. Thus, if you do not want them to be suspicious towards visitors and want them to behave in obedient manner, allow them to socialize and play.
