Manchester Terrier originated in England during the 19th century as a rat hunters this was introduced by
Manchester England by a man name John Hulme. Its nick name is the " rat terrier" and this was considered as the best vermin hunting breed of the day. This is a breed with two groups such as Standard and Toy.
This toy breed became very popular during Queen victories reign. In 1860 the Manchester district of England as the breed centers for "Rat Terriers" and then Manchester Terrier name had introduced. And
Manchester Terrier breed is a hardy breed. This is an earliest known breed of dog and it is very famous and good at killing rats.
Though Manchester look like a Miniature Doberman, but the breeds are not related. They are the result of crosses between the Black and Tan Terrier and with the Whippet. Manchester Terrier named Billy killed 100 rats in 6 minutes while 13 seconds in a British contest. For a time being it was referred to as the Black-and-Tan Terrier but the name of
Manchester Terrier was reestablished for the breed in 1923.
Their head is long and narrow with the skull and muzzle being of equal length. Eyes of
manchester terrier's are nearly black with almond shaped eye rims their expression is keen and alert. Ears are v-shaped and naturally folded over, pricked up or cropped.
Their neck is slightly graceful and arched and only coloration permitted is black and tan.
Manchester's are short, glossy black, dense and tan coat is easy to care but it does not protect
dog from the cold. Its nose is black and teeth should form a scissors bite.
The color of the coat is jet black with mahogany tan markings. This
dog breed requires minimal grooming and they are an average shedder. Their back is slightly arched and they are well mannered with more responsive than other Terrier breeds.

Toy dog's height varies from 10 to 12 inches while Standard dog's height varies from 15 to 16 inches.

Toy dog's weight vary between 6 to 8 Pounds and in United States and Canada the top weight is 12 Pounds. Standard dog's weight vary at 18 Pounds while bitches 17 Pounds.

Manchester dog lives about 15 or more years.

Manchester's Terrier are loyal, Obedient, active and they are good with their owner. This breed prefers warm climates but they should not be kept in sun for a long time. They are very active indoors and will do okay without a yard.
