The Lowchen is a French dog and means “little lion”. It is small in size. Though it is believed to have originated in France, is found in many parts of Germany and Spain too. It has been present since the fourteenth century and is found in many bas relief works and ancient paintings. This dog breed is lively and bright and makes a great companion to the owner. Being very intelligent, they can grasp commands and instructions very well. This makes it easy to train them.

They have a long flowing mane and there is a certain dignity about the way these dogs behave. A healthy Lowchen grows up to a height of twelve inches and can weigh around eighteen pounds. They have a general life expectancy of around fifteen years. They have an excellent sense of adaptability and enjoy being with people. They like outdoor games and love playing with children. These dogs are usually not very aggressive and are easy to get along. They are not very fussy eaters too. Being cheerful indoors, they are excellent for an apartment life.
