Husky is a medium-sized, dense-coated working dog breed originated in eastern siberia belonging to the spitz genetic family. It was brought to Alaska in 1909. They were used for centuries by the Chukchi people in Siberia to pull sleds, herd reindeer and perform watchdogging functions. Huskies have now become very popular as a companion dog, but they are also used for sledding, carting and racing. The Husky, a moderately northern dog breed, combines endurance, speed and strength in a way that enables it to carry light loads for long distances at good speed. Agile and quick, with an effortless, smooth gait.



Huskies are strong, compact working dogs. The eyes are almond shaped, and moderately spaced. The large snow shoe feet have hair between the toes for gripping on ice. Its ears are triangular, well-furred, medium-sized, and erect and they have very good hearing. Its fox-like brush tail is carried in a sickle curve over the back, and trails behind the dog in motion. Most Huskies' have a white tip on the end of their tail. The Husky has a thick, wooly undercoat and a soft outer coat. It is able to withstand temperatures as low as -58 degrees to -76 degrees F. The under coat is dense and soft in texture. The outer coat is longer and coarse with straight guard hairs. Their coat comes in a variety of colors and patterns. The most common colors are black and white, gray and white, copper red and white, and pure white.

Dog's standard height is 21-23 inches while bitch's height is 20-22 inches.

Dog's weight is 45-60 pounds while bitch's weight is 35-50 pounds.

A healthy husky dog lives for about 12-15 years.



Huskies are gentle and playful, but willful and mischievous. This cheerful dog is very fond of his or her family. Huskies are clever, sociable, loving, and easy-going. It is a very light-weight sled dog with great stamina. A lonely Husky can be very destructive so it should not be left alone. This dog breed likes to roam and becomes a wonderful companion. also dig large holes and will show considerable ingenuity in escaping from fenced runs. As sled dogs they have a very strong desire to pull, so good obedience training is recommended.

Husky as a Pet

Huskies are good with children and friendly with strangers and can be used as a pet. They can not be used as watch dogs as they bark little and love every one. These are very intelligent and trainable, but they have a mind of their own and will only obey a command if they see the point. are very energetic and enjoy the ability to explore and run. Husky breed dogs are extremely affectionate, curious, and welcoming to people.
