The harvanese originates from Havana, in cuba and it is bred originally as a lapdog and performer. It was first registered by American Kennel Club in 1995. It is a member of Bichon family.
Havanese is the national dog of cuba and its only native breed.
These are developed not only from Bichon family which includes Bichon Frise, the Bichon Bolognese, Maltese and Coton De Tulear. Havanese are also know as Bichon Havanais. This dog is classified as one of the Toy Dog Group.
Havanese is a cross bred between Bolognese and small poodle. It gorgeous good looks and endearing personality make the
dog breed a wonderful house pet.
It is thought that the ancestors of the havanese may have traveled to cuba at the time that the Spanish were exploring the Caribbean. The hypothesis of others is that the havanese is descended from the Maltese, brought to the west Indies at that time they were called as “The Havana Slik Dog”. Through the years, the Havanese has been bred for companionship.
Havanese dogs were never raised commercially or sold but they were given as precious gifts to a friend or someone.
Havanese are natural and companion dogs they are gentel and resposive. These are double coated breed with soft hair, both on outer and undercoat. They are long in body as compared to their height. The expression of the face, with its almond eyes, is one of the mischievousness rather than being cute. Their legs were strong and allow for free and easy movement.
Its tail is well plumed and carried curved over the back and their ears for long, well feathered and hanging close to the head.
Havanese nails were black, dark eyes and long tail are covered with long silky hair. And its eye rims, the nose and lips are solid black on all colors except the true chocolate dog.
Havanese are very affectionate and playful with a high degree of intelligence. It is people oriented dog. It has large, dark and appealing eyes. They are small, but muscular, lively with great stamina. It has charming and lovable personality.
Havanese little dogs are alert and they are quick in understanding.
It appears in different colors like Fawn, White, Black parti-color and tri-colored.
Dog's standard height varies from 8.5 to 11.5 and the bitch's height varies from 8.5 to 11.5.
Dog's vary between 7 to 13 lb and the bitches vary between 7 to 13 lb.
A healthy
havanese dog lives mid to late teens.
They are good for apartment life.
Havanese are active, intelligent, happy-go-lucky lively and bellyfuls breed comes from rainbow of colors. For the most part these little dogs were seen in the places and country estates of the very wealthy family.
