
German shortaired pointer is a sporting
breed originated in Germany in 1800's for hunting. It is developed from old spanish pointer. German hunters required a dog with a good nose to point within a reasonable distance for a man hunting on foot and that dog needed to have both fur and feather, from water or land, and also be a fine tracker. The German breeding incorporated the Old Spanish Pointer, Hounds of St. Hubert, the Foxhound, other hounds, and eventually the English Pointer and now a days shorthaired pointer is the result of the German hunters efforts. The
German shorthaired pointer is a versatile hunter and an all-purpose gun dog capable of high performance in both field and water. These dogs are campaigned successfully in the show ring, obedience and tracking trials, hunting tests, and field trials.

The German Shorthaired Pointer is a clean-cut, well-balanced, lean, hunting dog with an elegantly chiseled head. They are excellent in obedience, agility, tracking, hunting, and flyball. This
breed has a natural instinct to guard and must have obedience training. Its eyes are almond-shaped with intelligent and good-humored expression and nose is brown in color. The broad ears are high and lie close to the head. The tail is docked by 60% and the dewclaws are removed. The German
shorthaired pointer is a little smaller than the standard Pointer. It has a short, dense, sleek coat. The coat is in solid liver or liver and white, patched, ticked or roan. Its coat is water resistant.

Dog's height is in between 23-25 inches where as bitch's height is between 21-23 inches.

Dog's weight is between 55-70 pounds while bitch's weight is 45-60 pounds.
