French Bulldog was originated from England as a miniature version of the English Bulldog. In the 1860's, French dog breeders imported some of these Bulldogs from Great Britain and bred them with French Terriers. People in France greatly admired the imports and this led to the name French Bulldog. When the breed was brought back to England for exhibition, the English people made a big issue about the name French Bulldog, since the Bulldog was originally an English Breed and it was a traditional symbol of English culture. French bull dog was first exhibited in dog show at the webminister kennel club. It is an even-tempered dog which enjoys the company of people.



French Bulldogs are a compact, muscular dogs with a smooth coat, solid bone and snub nose. French Bulldog's physical appearance is characterized by naturally occurring 'bat ears' that are wide at the base and rounded on the top. The dog is in pear-shaped, with the shoulders wider than the tail area. Its skin is soft and fairly loose, which makes the dog very pleasant to pet. Its eyes are round and dark colored. The neck is thick and well arched with loose skin at the throat. Its coat is smooth, short, close and finely textured. The tail is either straight or cork-screw. The French Bulldog has the appearance of an active, intelligent, pleasant and easy care companion. Its square flat head is not as massive as the English Bulldog's and its forehead is round in shape. The French Bulldog has the appearance of an active, intelligent, muscular dog of heavy bone, and of medium or small structure.

Pied or fawn, brindle.

Standard height is about 12 inches.

It is upto a maximum of 28 lbs.

A healthy French bull dog lives for about 10-14 years.



The French Bulldog is a pleasant, easy care companion. They can be trained if the owner is patient and they will respond to patient, consistent training that donot include hitting or harsh training.These breed dogs are sensitive to temperature extremes. French bull dog requires close contact with humans. It is an affectionate, calm, quiet dog of excellent character. This dog breed requires minimal exercise and can be used as good watch dog.

French Bull Dog as a Pet

French bull dog is very playful and affectionate dog and good with other pets. It gets along fairly well with strangers, other animals and children. This breed is suited for apartment life. It loves to play and run. It is goodnatured and courageous. It is a wonderful companion to a small children who loves to play dress-up. In a family situation It behaves like a child, demanding a great deal of personal attention and interaction.
