A Foxhound is a large hunting hound. It is developed from English hounds brought to America in 1650. These are the best mannered of all the scenthounds. They hunt in packs and, like all scent hounds they also have a strong sense of smell. They are used in hunts for foxes hence the name foxhound. When they went out for hunting they are followed on horseback and will travel for several miles to catch their target. These dogs have strong natural instincts for hunting and are active and energetic. At the starting stages these dogs were used for seeking out Indians.
