The English shepherd is a native of Scotland. It is a hybrid between many varieties of working dogs as well as Border collie and Scotch Collie which are pure
breeds of dogs. The
English shepherd though was originally bred in England was later on taken to different parts of the world either as presents to luminaries or for breeding purposes or simply as pets. They make excellent watch dogs are usually used as a farm dogs by farmers owning large live stock and land. Some American farmers even used these dogs as hunting dogs either to scare away predators or hunt owl and ducks.
Physical Appearance and Character
These dogs are long and slender. They re blessed with a very definite bone structure and are muscular.
English shepherd have long slender legs which helps them to run very fast. It is due to their running ability that they make excellent hunting dogs. The skull is broad with a defined front nuzzle. They are medium sized and have droopy ears. They have a good fur coat which does not need too much grooming. The tail is long with lots of fur on them which may be straight or curly. They are available in any shade of black of white.
Some dogs may even have patches of black and white on them. This
dog breed can grow up to a height of twenty five inches and weigh up to seventy pounds. The female of the species grows to a height of twenty one pounds and weighs only fifty pounds. A healthy English shepherd can live up to an age of fifteen years. These dogs by nature are very courageous and brave. They are protective of their masters. They are extremely possessive of their puppies.
