This breed was first registered by the American Kennel Club in 1934 in the non-sporting group and in now a days it is a popular show dog throughout the world. This
dog breed is used for fighting purpose. It is mentioned in many historical works, such as in Shakespeare's King Henry VI. When animal baiting contests were held in England in 1835, these
Bulldogs were increasingly exported to America and also to Germany. It is known as the national symbol of great Britain.

The bulldog is a stocky breed, which has a compact body and short limbs. Its eyes are situated far from the ears and present low down to the skull. They are round in from and medium sized. Ears should be set high to the head and its cheeks are well rounded. The neck is very thick, strong and well arched at the back. Its tail is either straight or curly.
Bull dogs coat is short, straight, close, flat, of fine texture and smooth. Its skin is soft and loose, mainly at the head, neck and shoulders. The head and face are covered with heavy wrinkles, and at the throat, from jaw to chest, there are two loose folds. Its general appearance and attitude will suggest great stability, strength and vigor.

Brindle, solid white, red or fawn colors.

Standard height varies from 12-14 inches.

Dog's weight is 50 lbs and bitch's weight is 40 lbs.

English bull dog lives for about 8-10 years.

Bulldog is affectionate, gentle, uncomplicated, sensitive, intelligent, and fearless. It grows up to be a calm adult. The
breed prefers not to exercise, can easily overheat, and is prone to snoring. It adapts itself to the family environment.
Bulldogs are so attached to family and home that they will not go out of the yard without a human companion. It requires consistent training and it is sensitive to the voice of the trainer and proper care should be taken.
