Dog Aggression

Aggressive behavior is a natural and common for dogs and this may caused by fear, protection or their social standing. Many dog aggression problems occur because of communication problems between the two interbreeding living things. And some other reasons are when a dog is in a strange and unpleasant environment, being detached or separated from human contact or being unprotected to frequent teasing by children, an event cause to remember them of a previous unpleasant experience, absence of its person who has possession of something, living conditions, inadequate socialization etc.

There are different types of aggression by a dog. A dog may expose one or more types of aggression. Types of aggression are listed below.

  • Fear-Motivated Aggression
  • Territorial or Possession Aggression
  • Predator Aggression
  • Redirected Aggression
  • Pain-induced Aggression
  • Rage or Idiopathic Aggression

In an aggressive dog you can observe the following symptoms like refusing to move or get off the furniture, fearfulness in new situations or around strangers, refusing to lie down on command, a tendency to snarl, growl, or snap to protect food, stops eating or chewing as you approach. And also frequent attempts to chase moving objects such as bicycles, skateboards, cars and trucks, attempts to mount you or your children or other people's legs, severe attacks on other animals, such as cats, horses, pets or other dogs, snapping and snarling when petted, groomed, or lifted, repeated escapes from home and long periods spent roaming free, bumping you or your children, growls for any reason, other than play, Excessive barking, over protectiveness of possessions.

The dog owners must maintain the following standards like dog breeds should not be left under constant scrutiny with children and should never allow any dog to achieve dominant status over any person. Never allow the dog to give voice to a challenge towards people, puppies should be handled softhearted. Should not be allowed to chase children or joggers, jump on people.

Training is extremely beneficial to constrain and controlling aggressive behaviors. Professional animal behaviorists treat the aggressive behavioral dogs in a best way with their experience. There the dogs undergo dog training again at right circumstances. Appropriate socialization and puppy classes are also very helpful.
