Dachshund is a dog
breed of hound family originated in Germany. This dog breed is originally bred for hunting Badger, hence the name Dachshund. Dachs is the German word for Bader. It is used to hunt and follow the animals to earth, gradually becoming highly evolved, with shortened legs to dig the prey out and go down inside the burrows. Smaller
Dachshunds where used to hunt hare and stoat. Dachshunds have many terrier characteristics. They are courageous dogs and used to hunt foxes and otters along with badger. The Dachshund comes in three different varieties. The Smooth Haired Dachshund, Wirehaired Dachshund, and the Longhaired Dachshund. It also comes in two different sizes being standard and miniature.

The Dachshund is an elongated, vigorous, muscular dog with short legs. It carries itself proudly and has an intelligent expression. This
breed looks like low to ground and long in body. Eyes are oval, dark red or brown-black with an energetic and friendly expression and ears are hanging long on its cheeks. Its tail is carried in line with its back. It has an elongated head and a slight convex skull. Its skin is elastic and pliable without excessive wrinkling.
The Longhaired
Dachshund has a long and straight coat, with hair slightly feathered and longer on the underbelly, chest, ears, and legs. The Smooth Coat has a straight, smooth, short, and glossy coat that should all be of equal length along the body of the dog. The Wirehaired has a coat of broken appearance with wiry, coarse, and harsh hair.

Solid red, sable, or cream; black and tan, chocolate and tan, wild boar and tan, gray and tan, or fawn and tan, brindle.
There are two sizes in Dachshund, the miniature and standard.

The height of standard
Dachshund dog is 7-10 inches, The height of miniature Dachshund is 5 inches.

The height of standard Dachshund is 16-32 lbs, The height of miniature Dachshund is 11 lbs.

A healthy
Dachshund lives for about 12-15 years.

Dachshund is lively and affectionate, proud, bold, almost rash, willful and clownish. They are very clever and may attempt to train the owner moderate to high energy level. It can be used as an excellent watchdog and reserved with strangers. This
dog breed requires firm and consistent handling, but can be a little sensitive so he should always be corrected in a gentle manner, never harsh or this breed could become submissive and timid.
Dachshunds respond best to a variety of training methods.
Dachshund as a Pet
Dachshund is good with other pets and older, considerate children but does not do well with smaller children.
Dachshunds are very sociable and get along very well with most other dogs. It is suited for apartment life. These breed dogs like to walk or play in the parks. It will adjust to any living conditions, so it can be used as a
pet. This breed suffers from back problems so high jumping or running should never be allowed.
