
The Chihuahua breed has been named after the state of Chihuahua in Mexico. Carvings engraved in the Monastery of Huejotzingo located on the way to Mexico city from Puebla give strong evidence of the existence of the
Chihuahua breed in the 9th century. The carvings give the picture of a dog that resembles closely to the modern day Chihuahua.
However, the
Chihuahua of the modern day defers from the earlier days with its varying colors ranging from jet black to snow white. The Chihuahua breed by its nature shows a dislike towards other
dog breed and prefers to be with its own kind.

Chihuahua is a slender and tiny dog which is always alert. It is graceful and swift moving. The
Chihuahua dog has a petite structure, being the smallest of the breeds registered with the AKC. This
breed has an apple shaped skull and may have “molera” or soft spots on them. Their eye colors vary from luminous dark to luminous ruby.
They are found in two varieties- the smooth coats and the long coats. Chihuahua smooth coated variety has soft and glossy coats with ruff texture on neck and hairy tails. The fur is scantier on head and ears. The long coated variety has a soft texture being flat or a little curly. The
dog also has an undercoat. Their ears are usually fringed and have long tails.
