Over 120 years ago the Boxer was originated from Germany at the Brabanter Bullenbeisser which can be traced back to Belgium as working dogs. Originally the boxers were used as a hunt wild boar in Germany. As time going on people this breed discovered and made an outstanding family pet which are always eager to please their owners. In 1895 the German Boxer Club was formally recognized and described that the boxer structure.

In 1925 White boxer dog was no longer accepted which is the ancestor of boxer. Around the turn of the century the Boxer was introduced in United states but unto 1950's they didn't get popularity as a breed. The talents are guarding, watchdogging, military work, police work, competitive obedience, search & rescue, schutzhund and performing tricks.



The Boxer is a smooth-coated, square built, medium-sized, great nobility, strong bone and evident, with well developed muscles. The boxer coat is glossy, smooth short and tight to body. The eyes are dark brown in color, forward looking, small, deeply set, which are showing intelligent, lively expression and dark rims with good pigmentation.

The ears of Boxer are thin, moderate size, set wide apart on highest part of skull lying flat and close to cheek. The neck is round, of good length, muscular, strong, clean cut, no dewlap. The front feet is small and cat-like, with well arched toes, and hard pads, hind feet slightly longer. The tail is customarily docked which set on high and carried upward. If the daily is undocked then set on high and carried gaily with moderate thickness.

Fawn and brindle with white markings on muzzle, neck, feet, chest and legs.

The height of Boxer dog is 21- 25 inches and bitches have 21-23 inches of height.

Approximately the boxer dog weight is 66-70 lbs and the bitch weight varies from 55-60 lbs.

A healthy Boxer breed lives 10-12 years.



The Boxer is having high energy level, bouncy and playful and it is a even-tempered, stubborn and strong dog which makes an excellent watchdog. It is a good dog for competitive obedience. Generally the female boxer dog may get into fights with other female dogs to display dominance. The training should start at the younger stage which is to be firm and consistent.

These dogs does well in apartment or city life if sufficiently exercised and active indoors. They do best with at least average sized yard. The boxers are compatible with moderate weather means may chill with cold weathers and may fell trouble in heat weather.

Boxer as a Pet

Boxer dog is very loyal and affectionate with their family. This dog breed is fun loving, gentle and patient with children and also may be wary of unfamiliar children. They are adaptable with the other household pets such as cats, dogs. But they will chase and eat the farm birds and ducks. The nature of the Boxer is to protect you, your family and your home. The Boxer is used as a excellent watch dog and restrain an intruder like Bull dog.
