Borzoi

In 16th century the Borzoi first brought from Arabia to Russia. These dogs are used as a fierce and brave wolf hunter for hundreds of years. Next this dog brought to the Europe and spread their popularity very fast. Borzoi's, owned by Queen Victoria. Borzoi became favored for gifts among royalty.

The name Borzoi comes from the Russian word 'borzoi' which means swift. The Borzoi is talents include sighting, hunting, and lure coursing. Borzoi breed was recognized by CKC, FCI, AKC, UKC, KCGB, NKC, NZKC, BCUK, APRI, ANKC, ACR . It is also called as a Borzoi, Russian Wolfhound, Russkaya Psovaya Borzaya, Psovoi.



The skull of Borzoi is slightly domed, narrow and long, with scarcely any perceptible stop, inclined to be Roman-nosed. The Jaws are long, deep and powerful, somewhat finer in bitches but not snipy with large and black nose. The ears are small, lying back on the neck and fine in quality.

Borzoi eyes are intelligent with soft expression, dark in color, and dark eye rims. The dog neck is slightly arched, clean, free from throatiness, well set on and very powerful. Chest is narrow with great depth of brisket. The forelegs are straight and somewhat flattened with the narrower edge forward. Feet is with well-arched knuckles, Hare-shaped, and well padded.

Accepted colors are gold, white, red, grey, black, black roan, and patched or combination of these are preferable.

Borzoi height varies from 26-32 inches.

The male Borzoi dogs weight is 75-105 lbs and the bitches weight is from 55-85 lbs.

A healthy breed lives 11-13 years.



Borzoi is a aristocratic breed and tall compare to other dogs. They are sweet and intelligent dogs. These are considered to be the embodiment of elegance and grace. These dogs good with indoor environment and also compatible with outdoor but there may tend to climb the fencing and ran away.

They can able to tolerate in all types of environments. Compare to all sight hounds Borzoi is very fast. Regular grooming is required. They needs highly outdoor exercise daily with time to runoff-leash.
