In nineteenth century the Border collie was originated in Great Britain at Scottish and English border. This breed came from British Droving breeds with some spaniel added.
Border collie is a very oldest breed in herding. Traditionally these dogs are called as "collies".
Border collie is recognized by UKC, AKC, FCI, SKC, WWKC, FIC, CKC .They are also called as Working Collie, Scottish Collie. The talents of
border collie is used to watchdog, cattle and sheep herding, police work, search & rescue, narcotics detection, agility, competitive obedience, and performing tricks.

The Border collie is a medium-sized dog similar to the Australian shepherd without a bob-tail. The body is slightly little bit long compare to the height at the withers. Usually
Border collie dog ears are half-perked and eyes are dark brown in color and oval shaped. Some time the eyes may be in blue color. The tail reaches to the hock and is raised when the dog excited.
The coat of
Border collie is having two types of coats one with coarse hair and the other is sleek hair. The hair is in moderate length, dense, weather-resistant and slightly harsh or shiny and soft. On the tail long hair is required and on the face ,ear sand front legs is always seek and short. The under coat is thick and shiny.

Mostly available in combination of black and white, red, brown, black, blue, sale, bi-color or tri-color.

The dogs height is 19-22 inches and bitches are having 18-21 inches.

The weight of the dog varies from 30-49 lbs.

Border collie dog is very eager to work, astute and intelligent a quick learner, alert, lively, and attentive. These dogs learned very quickly and having natural aptitude for herding sheep. Exercise needed daily to keep the dogs active and want to please. These
dog breeds are exceptionally athletic, sound sensitive and possesses great endurance. Sometimes it is not independent.
These dogs are compatible with both indoor and outdoor environment, but mostly prefers outdoor with large yard. Daily brushing is needed for this
dogs. The litter size of Border collie is on average 4-8 puppies.

The Border collie is a good companion as
family pet. They are good with older children and sometimes it may try to herd the young children. And it is good with other animals and try to herd the small animals.
Border collie dogs are best with an experienced owner and likes to spend all time with them. These dogs have average shedder. Dominating nature is high for this dog. Because of this the owners should have extensive dog-owing experience prior to adopting Border collie.
