Bolognese

Bolognese

The Bolognese originated first in the city of Bologna in Italy around the eleventh century. This breed belongs to the Bichon Family and was used as Royal gifts. This particular use saw the breed travel to different parts of the world in ships as presents to kings and queens and thus the dog breed began to be developed in different parts of the world. Eventually they began to be recognized by different canine associations like the UKC and the American Kennel Club. ARBA too recognized it later.

Physical Appearance of Bolognese

The Bolognese is compact and is a small dog. They are usually soft coated and come in colors of white. They are almost never available in black. There may some patches of brown in the white coat of the dog. They have a skull which is slightly egg shaped and the front of the head protrudes distinctly. The eyes are brown or black in color. The tail is curled and is covered by furry coat. These dogs can grow up to a height of inches and are very light in weight. An adult dog weighs only around nine pounds. A healthy Bolognese pet can live up to the age of fifteen years.

Bolognese Character

These dogs being very sensitive need to be handled with care. They get hurt very easily when they are scolded by their master and almost never is there a necessity to be firm with this breed as they are very obedient and would do anything to please their masters. Being very attached to their masters, they cannot be left alone for prolonged periods. They enjoy playing with soft toys and like outdoor games. They are more suited to a warm climate perhaps due to a thin coat. They are usually healthy and make excellent walking companions as they can walk long distances almost non stop.
