There are a large number of people who might be interested in taking up a pet dog but are often confused when it comes to choosing a specific breed of dogs. One of the most famous
dog breeds is the Bloodhound.
About the Breed of Bloodhound
Bloodhound dogs are also known as the Chien de Saint-Hulbert. Bloodhounds are widely known for their keen nose and are thus, particularly used as police dogs.
Physical Appearance of Bloodhound
Bloodhound, generally, is a very large and powerful dog that is known for its short and harsh coat. Their average height is 26 inches for males and 24 inches for females. Bloodhounds are known to have a very short life span which never extends beyond 10-12 years.
They are known for their collection of layers of drooping skin around their head, nose and neck. Some people might find this look to be depressing while others may argue that this drooping look gives
Bloodhound a wise and noble look. A male Bloodhound weighs between 90 to 110 lb, while a female bloodhound generally weighs between 90 to110 lb.
Bloodhound as a Pet
Bloodhounds are generally known to make
ideal pets. However, before going out to get a bloodhound as a pet, there are several aspects which an individual must take into consideration. One of the major concerns which an individual needs to adhere to is the size of the bloodhound, which they intend to take up as a pet.
Although bloodhounds are known not only as efficient chewers, they often end up eating precious household stuff, which is not to be eaten. Thus before taking a bloodhound as a
pet, it is extremely important to determine that the individual will be able to take care of them or not.
Characteristics / Behaviour of Bloodhound
Bloodhounds are also called gentle giants in an affectionate manner. They are mild tempered, friendly, affectionate and extremely loyal to their owners. It is said that in case an adult
bloodhound gets separated from their owner, the bond of affection is so strong that the bloodhound may give up eating altogether.
They are also known to be extremely wilful. Thus, it is not an easy task to obedience train them.
Specific Traits of Bloodhound
Bloodhounds are known to test the patience of their owners while growing up. Until they reach two years of age, Bloodhound
pups often try to test their owners to assess what all can they get away with.
