In the 19th century the Australian terrier was developed in Australia by the British. These breed was created from the terriers which were imported from the Scotland and Northern England. First in 1868 it was shown as a
Australian rough-coated terrier in Australia at Melbourne. At that time these dogs were used to hunting the small animals, snakes guard the mines and sheeps.
In 1936 this
dog breed got the official recognition by the Kennel club of Great Britain. The American Kennel club accepted Australian terrier in 1958 which was new for the United States. Australian terrier is recognized by FKC, KCGB, CKC, APRI, NZKC, UKC, CET.
Australian terrier is a sturdy, small, medium boned dog. The body is slightly greater than height of the
dog. In the terrier group it is the smallest breed type. The outer coat is straight with hard hair and medium length. The under coat is dense, soft and short. It has a weatherproof coat with 2-3 inches long.
The v-shaped ears are erect and pink in color. The nose is also in v-shape and black in color. The chest is deep, strong and moderately wide. The feet is very small like cat.
Australian terrier eyes are dark, oval shaped, small with always keen terrier expression. The tail of Australian
terrier is docked straight.

Mostly available in tan and blue or solid red and sandy colors.

Australian Terrier as a Pet
The pet Aussie can be maintained adequately with regular brushing and combing nail clipping and an occasional bath. Relatively it is very easy to groom. They are more compatible with the children and family which make excellent
house pets. These dog
breed enjoy with long walk and adequate amount of exercise is needed. Australian Terrier learns very quickly but needs strict and firm training from young onwards as it is independent types.
