The Anatolian Shepherd is a native of Asia. They are basically shepherd dogs and have a strong resemblance to the shepherd dogs found in the Pyrenees and the Kuvasz. However, this dog is strong and agile as compared to its counterparts. These dogs are usually found in almost all possible canine color patterns. They can grow up to a height of thirty inches and weigh close to 150 pounds. These dogs being heavy and muscular need regular exercise lest they become obese and fall sick. Attention must be paid to their daily diet as these dogs have a tendency to bloat if there is insufficient exercise. A healthy Anatolian Shepherd can live up to fifteen years.
These dogs are very protective of their owners, they are stubborn and very independent and unless the owner does not have natural leadership traits, they cannot be trained. So, if it is a first time as a dog owner for you, this is not the best choice of dog breed for you. They are naturally very intelligent and courageous. They make excellent watch dogs. As they approach adulthood, they increasingly get suspicious of strangers. Though calm and steadfast, these dogs are not at all aggressive which makes them safe around people and children. Regular exercise is a must for these dogs to remain healthy.
