In 18th century American cocker spaniel is one breed of dog which was originated in United Kingdom and brought to the United States and Canada. In nineteenth century the
American cocker spaniels were given their own AKC stud book. They are very small when compare to their sporting breed group. American Cocker Spaniels are used to hunt a variety of upland game birds and water fowl.
Officially in United States this breed is called as "Cocker Spaniel". In Cocker Field Trials the American Cocker Spaniels and English Cocker Spaniels are the only
spaniel breeds allowed to compete together in the United States. The American cocker spaniel is a versatile small dog which remains popular as a pet. It is a competitive gaming dog, gentle therapy dog or companion hunter.

American Cocker Spaniel is one of the smallest member of the Gundog Group. It has a compact body, sturdy and refined head, with in complete balance and of ideal size. The
American Cocker Spaniel coat on the head is fine and short, on the body it is in medium size with under coat for protection. The coat is flat, silky and slightly wavy in nature. This dog is capable of considerable speed and combined with great endurance. The expression of this dog is alert, appealing, soft and intelligent.
The eyeballs are round and look directly forward. The shape of eyes are slightly appeared as almond. The iris is in dark brown color or darker than that. American
Cocker Spaniel ears are long, lobular, well feathered and placed in lower part of the eye. The neck is sufficient long and muscular. The feet is large, compact, round and firm. The muzzle is deep, wide and broad with a square jaw.
